Mother Nature provided the fireworks off in the distance and man provided the annual fireworks display at Wintergreen Resort this past Sunday night as part of their annual fireworks display. We already told you about the spectacular shot our Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura got of the fireworks and the lightning. An incredible photo shown below.

Paul grabbed this shot Sunday night up at Wintergreen while shooting the fireworks display at the resort. Thunderstorms off in the distance can be seen.

The annual fireworks display has become a family tradition at the resort.

In between fireworks sets, lightning could be seen off in the distance toward Charlottesville. The storm seen in the photo caused substantial damage in Charlottesville and Ivy, Virginia.

Long before darkness fell, crowds line the hillside and slopes at Wintergreen Resort for a perfect view of the fireworks. The fireworks are fired over the valley from an elevation of roughly 3000 feet.

After some pretty potent thunderstorms with impressive downpours Wednesday evening, the next couple of days look pretty good with minimal chances for thunderstorms late in the day. By the 4th of July Saturday, chances for widely scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are in the forecast, but most areas will remain dry.

Temperatures over the upcoming holiday weekend will generally be in the mid to upper 80′s valley with temps around the 80 degree mark on the mountains. Each afternoon has roughly a 30% chance for a scattered afternoon storm, but overall the weekend looks very nice!

As the Independence Day weekend rolls around, preparations are underway for the annual 4th of July Parade in Lovingston, this Saturday at 11:00 AM. This year’s theme is The Declaration of Independence. The 2009 Parade Grand Marshall is Ray Uttaro, Emergency Services Coordinator for Nelson County.

Many different entires will be included in this year's parade that kicks of at 11AM on Saturday.
