Now that cold weather is settling in and the Nelson Farmers Market Coop has closed down for the season, it’s indoors for the winter months at the RVCC Indoor Community Market. It kicked off this past Saturday morning in conjunction with the monthly First Saturday Pancake Breakfast.

The indoor market at RVCC allows local producers, vendors and crafters to continue right into the cold winter months on the first Saturday of each month.

The final day of summer didn’t leave without putting up a big fight! Isolated severe thunderstorms moved through the area late Wednesday afternoon. Our NCL Devils Backbone Weather Station @ 664 & 151 recorded a 46 MPH wind gust as the storms moved through. That rain gauge picked up just over a half inch of rain at .53″ after an afternoon high of 92°.

Though the north end of the tents were totally destroyed, most of the other tents toward Wintergreen Real Estate were not harmed.

Up on the mountain at our NCL-Wintergreen Nature Foundation Weather Station, they picked up just over 1/3 of an inch of rain at .37″ with an afternoon high of 81°. Back in the valley here at NCL in Greenfield, our station only picked up a meager .08″ of rain after a blazing afternoon high of 96° reached at 2:49 PM.

The first day of fall will start off more like mid-July with afternoon highs once again in the low and mid 90′s. By Saturday night our weather patterns will finally change with cooler temps arriving by Sunday and decent chances for rain from Sunday through next Wednesday. Afternoon valley highs will be in the low and mid 70′s much of next week. Temps in the mountains will be in the 60′s for daytime highs and 40′s overnight.

Packed house. That’s the only way to describe the March 6th RVCC Community Market and Pancake Breakfast. February’s event was canceled due to all of the snowfall across Nelson. But, with the sun shining and temps headed toward the 50′s it was a perfect days for people to get out!

Dawn Averitt Bridge grabs something to drink at RVCC"s monthly panckake breakfast held in conjunction with the market.

The indoor market is a winter alternative that started a few years back to give folks a place to go during the cold months while the Nelson Farmers Market is in hibernation.

Brian Craig and son Rowen check out the market this past Saturday morning.

All kinds of homemade jams, jellies and preserves were just some of what could be found at the market.

There was live music to entertain the crowd.

People head into the market Saturday morning.

The regular outdoor farmers market held in Nellysford begins in May.

The Lovingston Indoor Farm Market will be held later this month on March 20th in the Nelson Center.

As the dog days of Summer set in, area Nelson Farmers Markets continue doing a brisk business.

With abundant rainfall this year area farmers are reporting a fantastic harvest. That means when you visit the farmers markets you have plenty to choose from, and fresh! The Nelson Farmers Market Co-op continues this weekend and all other weekend until October, as does the Schuyler Community Farmers’ Market in Eastern Nelson County.

The Schuyler Community Farmers' Marlet kicked off in May of this year and continues to be highly successful.

The Schuyler Community Farmer’s Market operates Saturdays from 9A-12P, including live music, free coffee, locally grown veggies, baked goods and crafts. The market is on the lot of Walton’s Mountain Museum.

The Nelson Farmers’ Market Co-op is open from 8 am to 12 noon. The market is located in Nellysford at the entrance to Stoney Creek. There is also a Wednesday market at the Nelson Center in Lovingston from 3:00 PM until 7:00PM each week.

With just a hint of rain in the air, Nelson’s newest farmers’ market kicked off this past Saturday morning. The Schuyler Community Farmers Market joins other area markets like the one in Nellysford that started its season last weekend.

The market featured items produced by local farms, baked goods, handmade crafts, art work including jewelry, photography, woodworking and more.

Complimentary coffee provided by Trager Brothers in Lovingston greeted folks dropping by the market adjacent to Walton's Mountain Museum.

The Schuyler Community Farmers' Market is open each Saturday morning from 8:30 AM until 12:30 AM.

The first weekend of May always brings out a crowd, and when it coincides with the opening of the Nelson Farmers’ Market, it’s an even bigger crowd. The 2009 season of the market officially got underway this past Saturday. The market is held each Saturday until October.

Vendors did a very brisk business on opening day.

The parking lot was packed this past weekend at the market.

Starting Wednesday a new version of the market will be opening in Lovingston as well, right next door to the Nelson Memorial Library.

Many other area markets will kick off this coming week as well, including the brand new Schuyler Community Farmers’ Market on May 9th.

If you didn’t make this past weekend’s Holiday Community Market and Pancake Breakfast at RVCC you simply missed out on a spectacular time! There was everything from food, to crafts, to entertainment, Christmas Trees, and more!

Parking was a preumium at the market this time around! We parked way over on the field behind RVCC.

Before heading off to the market, folks filled up on yummy pancakes!

Ok, Adam didn't eat pancakes, but Yvette did! Looks like Orquida Ingraham in the background did too!

This was one of the best winter markets ever!

The next community market will be in January on the first Saturday of the month.

Saturday was the last official Nelson Farmers Market of the 2008 season. But don’t look for all of the tents to come down just yet. We’re told some of the vendors will be having a scaled down version of the market for a couple more weekends in October. But the great weather over the Columbus Day weekend was a perfect ending to a perfect year for the market.
