Overnight Power Outage Affects Thousands : CVEC Quickly Repairs : 3.2.10

Nelson County, Virginia
As we first told you just before 6PM last night, folks in several counties including Nelson lost power. At one time a little over 6000 customers were in the dark. “A crossarm broke at a point where there was a knot in the wood. A combination of wind and weight could have been a factor that enhanced an existing weakness, but it was difficult to tell in the dark. When the crossarm broke, a transmission wire fell and made contact with a distribution line below. This caused the protective equipment to de-energize the line all the way back to the Midway substation, which is located on Route 635, north of the Miller School and just south of Route 250,” says Greg Kelly with Central Virginia Electric Coop.
Greg tells us the location of the incident was along Dick Woods Road between Crozet and Batesville.

Reports of power going out quickly became the topic of conversation on our Nelson Mag Facebook Page. People from Wintergreen Mountain to Faber, to Roseland were reporting the lights out.
CVEC crews had the power back on within roughly three hours for everyone.
