Like it or not, cameras that capture the identity of vehicles running red lights are coming to three busy intersections in Albemarle County. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance on August 5, 2009 to implement the “photo red” system at the following locations:
Rio Road and U.S. 29
Hydraulic Road and U.S. 29
U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) and Route 20 (Stony Point Road)
121 violations were recorded during a single 12-hour study of the Rio Road intersection on June 29.
Yep, and do the math, that comes to $6050.00 dollars per day just at that one intersection. Easy to see why they want it. Revenue.
These photo enforcements cameras are all over the D.C./Maryland metropolitan area and I, for one, think it’s all very “1984″ (I have gotten a ticket from these cameras “up there” – quite the unpleasant surprise when it shows up in the mailbox)… I agree it’s about revenue, but it gives me the willies. Freedom of movement? Is that a human right?
Yes, you are right , the cameras in MD/DC ar all over. First it was red light cameras. Then they added speed cameras, both fixed then mobile positions. More money!
Montgomery County MD issued roughly $2 million in speed camera citations last year.
